Review
For a change I decided to review something I'm not so familiar with as opposed to something I have listened to many times over. As Cowpers fans go, I discovered them rather late; by that time they had already disbanded. But never mind that for now, what about Lost Days?

Well as an album it fits together quite nicely, as all of the tracks have something different to offer - from the crisp riffs of opener "Lost" to the heavy distortion of closing track "Rust."

As a band, it is rather hard to entirely pin Cowpers down as they incorporate a variety of different influences, bringing to mind such bands as Naht, Number Girl and drumkan/DRUM:KAN.

Cowpers' sound is at times noisy and distorted in tracks such as "Wreck My Faith" and "Crawl Space," whereas songs like "Curve II" and "Days" have a much more melodic sound. In addition they seem to have a penchant for using violins as backing music, which to me is no bad thing. In terms of vocals they are fairly understated for the most part, which on certain tracks is very reminiscent of the vocalist from God's Guts.

To me the standout tracks on the album are:

Note: these share the same lyrics and basic tune but are quite different in some other respects.

"Curve" - Some people might dispute this choice, as it is in essence the same song as "Curve II" and the vocals aren't perfect; the vocalist's voice tends to crack on certain lines, but it seems quite deliberate as they made no attempt to cover it. I find it quite endearing and it adds an extra feeling of passion to the song - you get the feeling that he is trying his hardest to squeeze that last little bit of emotion into it. This track comes in at just over three minutes long, a full minute and a half shorter than "Curve II" because it is straight into the song with no intro.

"Curve II" - Compared to "Curve," this is a lot slower and more laid back. The first one and a half minutes are instrumental, providing much more of a build up. The violins in the background give it a quite melodic feel and bring to mind some of drumkan's better songs. The vocals in this are quite understated due to "Curve" having a much more laid back delivery; not that this is bad, just different - I think this style works equally well.

In conclusion, if you like some of drumkan's more melodic songs or distortion heavy rock like Mo'some Tonebender and Number Girl, then Cowpers could be the band for you. They are much overlooked in comparison to similar sounding groups, though this is a shame as they easily produce songs of an equal standard.
