Elder statesmen of the tokyo punk/hardcore scene, the Garlic Boys have been producing quality music for over 20 years now. They took time out of their busy touring schedule to spare us a few words on their career thus far. |

Firstly, could you please introduce yourselves
Vocals : PETA , Guitar : LARRY , Bass : KYO , Drums : SEXER
How did you come up with the name Garlic Boys?
According to what the original members said, they came to it for a dumb reason and it's sort of embarrassing. Anyhow, for a band that's been going for a long time now, it seems like we really weren't thinking.
You have been around a lot longer than many bands, how would you say your musical style has changed over the years?
In the early days, we were singing songs that no one else would sing, and did a lot of trial and error. Now we pretty much have a normal singing style...
Which other artists have influenced you?
Slash metal, hardcore punk, etc.
What would you say has been the highlight of your career so far?
The European Tour. Because we haven't toured continuously for a month, even in Japan.
How do you think the japanese punk scene has changed in the last 20 years?
It's turned more towards the mainstream and gotten boring.
You have played shows outside of japan, how would you say international fans compare to the ones in japan?
We were welcomed warmly.
Did you have any interesting experiences while abroad?
We got an offer from Italy, so we want to turn that into reality quickly.
Did you find it much different being signed to a major label rather than a smaller one?
There are too many useless people around us.
What music have you been listening to lately?
Japanese indie.
What are your plans for the future?
We're taking it step by step.
Interview from 2005.10.02, translation James. Keikaku.net staff would like to thank Larry and the Garlic Boys for their participation in this interview.
