Tetsuo Kitame of All Tomorrow's Party
Q: Please introduce yourself.

Name: Tetsuo Kitame
Instrument: guitars, vocals
Date of Birth: February 22nd, 1974
Location of Birth: Sendai City, Japan

I also lived in Atlanta, Georgia, USA for half a year in 1985.

Q: How would you describe ATP's sound?

Violent, sexy, timeless, dark, melodic, and hallucinogenic.

Q: Who are the members of All Tomorrow's Party? What equipment do you use?

Tetsuo Kitame: Guitars (unknown Japanese vintage guitar, Fender Music Master, and Gibson Les Paul Jr. TV)
Yoshitaka Asano: Bass (Fender Precision, Guyatone)
Taro Ishikawa: Drums (Vintage Ludwig)

Q: Why did you pick All Tomorrow's Party as your band name?

At first, we did covers of songs by The Velvet Underground. [Note: The Velvet Underground has a song called "All Tomorrow's Parties."]

Q: What has been ATP's greatest challenge so far?

To release records by our own. We're still looking for a label. Our greatest challenge would be a world tour.

Q: How did you first become interested in music? When and why did you decide to make a career out of it?

My parents used to play some records for me. Some kind of music for children. And I got a revelation of God when I was 20. I had a dream. In that dream, someone like Jimi Hendrix (I don't know) guided me.

Q: Please state your band history.

My band history is only 2 bands. I started my guitar life when I was 18 years old. I began the band Love Love Straw in 1994. And ATP began in 2002.

Q: Why did Love Love Straw disband? Love Love Straw's final show sounded like it was amazing. How many songs did you play? Please describe the feelings you had when playing then.

One member had to leave because of certain circumstances. For LLS' final show we played about 20 songs or so. I really enjoyed the gig that night.

Q: Why do you write most of your songs with English lyrics? Do you find it easier or harder to write songs in English over Japanese?

Writing in Japanese characters, even in English phonetically, seriously does not change the difficulty. I write in either. It depends on the song's color. There is no other reason.

Q: Of all the songs you've ever written, which do you like the most? Which one do you feel was the hardest to write?

My favorite song is ATP's "Cracked." This song has only one intensive theme. The tune that was most difficult to write was LLS's "Joe Cool." The most popular tune is LLS's "Wada Style." I can't deny that.

Q: What is ATP currently doing?

I'm planning our next full album, called GOOD REVERBERATION. We're also planning on touring the US.

Q: ATP's yoo doo right, yoo doo slide comes out in America on August 23rd. What do you think of this album?

No doubt, they are our best masterpieces. All tunes were recorded at my home with my KORG D-12. Of course there's good quality and atmosphere in the performance. We wanted everyone to be able to enjoy various moods. We are known for sounding dark, but by all means there is light there. I tried to write those kind of songs.

Q: What musical artist have you been listening to lately?

Serge Gainsbourg.

Q: Which painter, author, and director are your favorite?

I like Pablo Picasso's paints.
I like Richard Hell's novels.
I also really like Gus Van Sant's films, lately.

Q: Please say anything else you would like to say to fans overseas.

Please enjoy our Far Eastern garage rock music!
